The Book Called: The Unknown
Nandini | November 22nd, 2023

The time on his watch struck 12:00 am and Abhi did not know how he reached the forest.

Abhi is a 19-year-old college-going student who wants to become a writer. Books and the library are the only 2 things he loves in this entire world. But what he did not know is that books are the actual soul of the writers.

Just a usual day in his life he was checking out new arrivals in the town hall library. A book caught his eye. A sleek and polished exterior cover stood the most among other books.

Abhi reached out to the book, it was hardcover, completely black with the title written in white “THE UNKNOWN”.

‘The unknown’ Abhi murmured to himself.

He did not think twice before carrying the book to take home with him.

The excitement was clearly visible on his face. He just could not wait to get home and read it. He reached home and settled in his usual place to read through. When he tried to open the pages it seemed like they were struck together in one big chunk. He clearly remembers seeing the content inside. He tried releasing the page slowly, he could see small particles coming out of the book. He thought that was dust, but as time flew by the dust was just increasing.

Soon the particles covered his entire space, he could not help but inhale quite a few particles. The last thing he saw before he lost consciousness.

When he opened his eyes, he felt a tingling sensation coursing through him. A sudden surge of energy jolted through his body, and he could feel his heart race.

He checked his surroundings and his heart started to rise more seeing himself in a very new and unknown place. The book lying next to him. Abhi found himself standing in a lush forest, the sky with vibrant colors and sounds.

He checked himself, pinched himself, and slapped his cheeks checking if he was dreaming but it hurt him.

He blinked, disoriented, and realized he had been transported to a world he couldn’t comprehend. Strange creatures with iridescent wings flitted among the trees, and the air was thick with enchantment.

“What the hell?”

Before he could exclaim more he felt an unimaginable power coursing through him. He raised his hand, and a luminous orb of light emerged from his fingertips, casting a gentle glow upon the mystical realm. The entire light took a toll on him and he slept in the forest with creatures flying above his head and around him.

When he woke up he heard someone screaming for help, he hurried to the place and saw a giant serpent trying to eat a few people, but they looked nothing like humans. But putting his thoughts aside he rushed to help them. When he ran forward he could feel the light surging through him, he knew exactly what to do. A ball of light surged through him and hit the serpent.

The attack diverted the serpent to see the newcomer. He suddenly took a human form and stared right into Abhi’s eyes.

Abhi panicked but his form said otherwise. The serpent stared at him and vanished from there. The onlookers were dumbfounded to see someone could stand against the serpent.

The onlookers kept staring, but he felt the book moving, he opened it and saw the scene which took place a few seconds back, was written. Abhi understood that he had to complete the book in order to get out of this place.

As he explored this new world, Abhi soon discovered his newfound abilities went beyond his imagination. He could manipulate the elements, conjure protective barriers, and communicate with the mystical creatures that called this world their home.

Word of the “The Outsider,” who is Abhi as the creatures called him, spread like wildfire. They believed him to be their savior, destined to thwart an impending disaster that threatened to engulf their world in darkness.

Abhi’s journey took him to the heart of the mystical world, where an ancient prophecy revealed the impending powers—a colossal, shadowy beast known as the “Eclipse Serpent” was stirring, seeking to devour the very essence of this world, plunging it into eternal night.

Abhi understood the serpent he met on day 1 is his supposed villain. And he was anything but just a serpent. But if he has to get out of here then he needs to kill The ‘Eclipse Serpent’.

Determined to fulfill his newfound role, Abhi trained alongside the mystical creatures. He learned the secrets of their world, the language of the wind, and the rhythms of the forest. He formed deep bonds with creatures of all shapes and sizes, from talking trees to shimmering sprites.

As the day of reckoning neared, Abhi and his newfound allies set out to confront the ‘Eclipse Serpent’. With a gathering storm of power and hope, they faced the colossal beast, their strengths intertwined like a symphony of elemental forces.

The War of Unknown.

A battle ensued, with Abhi commanding the elements, and his mystical companions adding their unique abilities to the fray. The Eclipse Serpent fought fiercely, but the combined might of their unity proved to be not enough.

The serpent clearly tired, spewed, “You think you can save them. Never”

The serpent combined all his power in his hand and dashed it to the ground causing it to shake.

“I will either rule it or destroy it.” said the serpent.

Abhi stood there shocked, he could feel a calamity raising, that triggered Abhi’s anger. Abhi combined his powers and threw it towards the serpent. In a blinding flash of light, the serpent dissipated into a million shards of darkness, vanquished for eternity.

The mystical realm once shrouded in despair, burst into a vibrant tapestry of colors, and the creatures celebrated their newfound freedom.

Abhi took out the book and he clearly saw THE END…

Abhi knew he couldn’t stay. His place was in the human world. With a heavy heart, he bid farewell to his mystical friends and closed the book, his world fading into the pages like a dream.

He found himself in his house but with his memories intact.

He walks out of the setting sun painting the city in shades of orange and gold. Abhi realized that while he couldn’t stay in the mystical realm, he could carry its lessons with him. With newfound strength, he resolved to protect his own world from disaster and cherish the bonds of unity that transcended all realms.
